Pattern: Morehouse Farms Hedgehog Mittens Yarns: Green Mountain Spinnery “Alpaca Elegance”, 1 1/2 skeins Method: Hand knitting Completed: December 18, 2012. |
A delightful pattern from Morehouse Farms. Once I saw the picture, I could not not knit these for a young hedgie-fan friend.
I used the Green Mountain Spinnery Alpaca Elegance that I had on hand, and a few feet of brown Koigu KPM from a sock project for the nose. I made the adult size small — which is probably far too large for anyone other than an adult with a large hand. Will wear well with a small liner mitt.
The “quills” are made by casting on 4 stitches and immediately casting them off, every other stitch — it’s a fair bit of work, but having stiff needles with a sharp point is a lot of help.
