  • Weft: 10/2 mercerized cotton, in various colours

Completed: November 27, 2022.

This was a riff on a project from a 2021 Tien Chiu class (“Make Your Colors Sing”), as well as lessons learned from Tien’s “Gorgeous Gradients” class that same year. In the MYCS class, I had an extra yarn kit, for the “blending” draft project. I decided to use that project as a jumping off point, and use the kit to also do some gradients project work.

I set up the warp with one gradient, did two towels with the treadling pretty much as “straight up” projects from the class, and the third towel has a weft gradient in addition to the warp gradient (and I dropped the weft stripes). The towels are all very different from each other, and interesting in their own ways.

It was also my first project on a 4-shaft, 45″ LeClerc “Mira” counterbalance loom that I had rescued from an estate sale. It worked beautifully!
