Overall, a fun knit, and a nice result. There are some nice design elements — like the collar, with proper points! There were some significant challenges along the way — some introduced by myself (overthinking yarn quantities) and some by the yarn itself (I’m still not used to superwash).
I bought the kit at Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival in 2011. I didn’t get around to it for years. When I went to look at the kit bag, I observed there was extra yarn. Reading the instructions and quantity of yarn called for to make the size I wanted, the kit didn’t seem to include enough yarn for the size (it did; whatever the instructions said). I mixed and matched between the original colours, and the lighter shades I had bought. I’m happy to have a unique colourway 🙂 .
Measuring as I went — it seemed the right size, as compared to a fleecy jacket that fits well. But, when I tried it on … sleeves were waaaay too long. Like 4″ too long, over my hands. I set it aside, as we were going to be away for a while. While away, I realized I hadn’t blocked them, so I soaked and dried the sweater on return after the summer. Now EVERYTHING too long! I stuffed it under my desk again for some more months.
Finally, given the choice was chuck it out or chuck it in the dryer… soaked it, threw it in the dryer on low, and voila. Sleeves are still a little too long, but maybe not more than any sweater where I knit them a bit too long. I’m calling this a success and calling it done.
I think I’m not a fan of superwash.
